The Kruger family of Lyndhurst Stud, Warwick has been breeding thoroughbreds at the historic property since 1956 and as breeders they are among the top echelon in Australia.
Lyndhurst goes back even further as a nursery for thoroughbred breeding as it all started in 1886 when Charles Edward McDougall started the stud with talented racehorse turned stallion Archie.
The Kruger’s have stood champion stallions at Lyndhurst since 1958 when Smokey Eyes arrived and since then it has been an on going base for champion stallions more recently Celestial Dancer and Sequalo.
This year the yearling sale marks the entry of stock by Lyndhurst’s latest stallion Better Than Ready a champion sprinter predicted to make a huge impact on the racing and breeding scene in Australia.
So, it is indeed a coup that Lyndhurst’s current proprietors brother Jeff and Griff Kruger have rekindled their association with the Capricornia Yearling Sales despatching six yearlings for sale there on Sunday.
Two are by Better Than Ready and the conservative Jeff Kruger believes that one of the pair could well be the sale-topper.
“I won’t be at all surprised if the filly from Tiger Dimejan tops the sale or at the very least makes the top tree of the top prices yearling”, he said.
Seemingly it could be a case of all good things come to those who wait as the Better Than Ready- Tiger Dimejan x Falvelon filly is listed very late in the catalogue as Lot 111.
“She is a lovely filly with a fair reserve placed on her. We have had a number of inspections on her down her and I believe she will be highly sought after”, Jeff Kruger said.
Perusing the pedigree page of Lot 111, Jeff’s prediction about the filly is completely understandable given that her dam Tiger Dimejan won seven races and is a half-sister to Cape Kidnappers.
Does that name ring a bell?
It should as Cape Kidnappers was a quality LR race winning sprinter of nine to 1200m including the BRC Lightning Handicap and Chief De Beers Handicap.
The speed on speed pedigree infused by Randwick 1200 metres record holder Better Than Ready and Tiger Dimejan is both a vendor and buyer’s dream so the filly would be a gem of a buy.
For buyers with possibly a smaller budget the Better Than Ready colt from Lyndhurst catalogued as Lot 35 from the Sequalo mare Flawless Curves is certain to suit and yours for the taking.
The colt is from a prolific winning Lyndhurst Stud family as the dam Flawless Curves is by Sequalo while the second dam Cheer Girl was a daughter of Celestial Dancer herself a grand-daughter of Hail To Success.
The pedigree page is one to drool over and realistically Lyndhurst has brought the colt to Rockhampton to sell.
“There is no reserve on this colt and he will not be going home. This colt goes back to Flamenco a Stakes race winner of the Calaway Girl LR as a two-year-old. It is a great family”, Kruger said.
With Lot 1, a Better Than Ready Lyndhurst filly withdrawn from the CYS catalogue, Lyndhurst will also offer yearlings by Drumbeats (Lot 6); Dreamscape (Lot 25); Hidden Dragon (Lot 66) and Real Saga (Lot 73).
Over the years astute buyers recognise that the stock of first season stallions, in this case Better Than Ready are often very under priced in the sale ring as was the case last year with yearlings by Spirit of Boom.
It simply looks a case of being Better Than Ready on Sunday!
