This follows the Rockhampton Jockey Club receiving 91 entries for Friday’s seven race TAB card at Callaghan Park as well as excellent nominations for the feature program on Saturday.
Saturday’s program feature’s Rockhampton’s richest race the $118,000 Capricornia Yearling Sale 2YO Classic (1200m) which has aroused tremendous interest from throughout Queensland.
That race is bolstered by the $68,000 Capricornia Yearling Sale 3YO Championship (1300m) which promises to be the best of its time.
From the CYS perspective the fact that such high-profile trainers as Brisbane’s Liam Birchley and Paul Butterworth as well as the Sunshine Coast entities David Vandyke and Billy and Dale Healey have runners on Saturday augurs well for the sale.
This year’s CYS has without any shadow of doubt lured the best draft of yearlings in its rich history.
The fact that so many established Queensland thoroughbred studs are dispatching yearlings to be sold is a m mighty compliment for the Rockhampton event.
These include three of biggest breeding enterprises in Queensland – the Kruger brothers Lyndhurst Stud, Warwick; the Nolan family’s Raheen Stud, Warwick as well as Neville Stewart’s Oaklands Stud, Umbiram.
That trio will account for approximately one-third of the entire catalogue of yearlings by sending 35 yearlings north to the venue at the Robert Schwarten Pavilion at the Rockhampton Showgrounds commencing at 11am next Sunday.
Other sizeable visiting vendors include Grandview Sud, Peak Crossing; Lucas Bloodstock; Croftby as well as Waylon J Stud, Wamuran
Lucas Bloodstock will present seven yearlings by the Choisir sire Dreamscape who is already an established sire of winners.
The presence of yearlings by Grandview Sud’s first season sire Whittington as well as Lyndhurst’s Better Than Ready is a real coup for the CYS promoters.
Both were outstanding sprinters and their first season yearlings were keenly sought after at Magic Millions Sales at the Gold Coast in January and March.
Whittington (B H 2010, Tale Of The Cat(USA)-Maha Chakri x Beautiful Crown) was a gun two-year-old winning twice including the prestigious ATC Breeders Plate (1000m) by three lengths
He matured training-on to win the GCTC Magic Millions Sprint (1100m) at three-years before coming back a year later at four to win the BRC Lightning Handicap (1000m).
Throughout his pedigree lineage, Whittington is littered with juvenile race winners which means his stock will assuredly be on the buyer’s list at the Rockhampton Sale.
So too for that matter will be the Better Than Ready yearlings which sold second best behind the sale stopper Spirit of Boom yearlings at the Magic Millions March Sale.
The Better Than Ready yearlings were standouts and no doubt the seven on offer next Sunday will be of similar quality.
Central Queensland breeders have long been highly successful producing outstanding racehorses that graduated for their drafts at the CYS.
Studs such as Laurel Glen; Riverside Thoroughbreds; Stewart Park and Springton Park will all have enticing well-bred yearlings on offer and all four properties have over the years produced strings of prolific winning thoroughbreds.
