Preparations well underway for 2018 Capricornia Yearling Sales Carnival

It seems the early hype building towards this year’s Capricornia Yearling Sales Carnival in Rockhampton in April complements the importance of the event.

Accordingly, preparations are well advanced for the 2018 Capricornia Yearling Sales which are to be held at the Robert Schwarten Pavilion at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on Sunday, April 8.

The sale, which this year has one of its strongest and largest drafts on record, has lured yearlings from throughout Queensland as well as some from interstate private vendors.

To commence at 11am sharp, it is the pinnacle of a very big racing and social week in Rockhampton.

CYS convenor Jeff Leaver said with the co-operation of the Rockhampton Jockey Club, the concept of a Capricornia Yearling Sale Carnival was developed a few years ago and had proved an outstanding success.

‘’Together with the RJC we believe we have put together an exciting schedule of events leading into the Sunday sale of yearlings. This year’s sale catalogue by the way is very exciting and well up on last years which is a sign of approval by breeders and vendors”, Leaver said.

Two TAB race meetings at Callaghan Park, Rockhampton are scheduled for Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 with prize money bolstered for the CYS feature races scheduled on the Saturday.

“The prize money for the 2018 Capricornia Yearling Sales Classic Race Day on Saturday, April 7 is a record. The QTIS CYS 2YO Classic (1200m) has the added attraction of double QTIS and QTIS filly bonuses provided the winner is registered with QTIS. As such, should a filly win the 2YO Classic she will earn for her owners in the vicinity of $80K prize money.

Similarly, the double QTIS bonus system applies for the winner of the CYS 3YO Classic (1300m) which would enhance the prize money for the race to over $70,000 ‘’, he said.

Amazingly, more than $380,000 prize money is to be won at the two days of racing at Callaghan Park on Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7.

‘’It is simply magnificent prize money and is certain to attract stables from throughout the State for the two days with the incentive for the industry participants to stay over in Rockhampton and buy at our sale on the Sunday”, Leaver said.

Yearling inspections will be available at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on the morning of Friday, April 6 with some good old Rocky hospitality to be shared.

“There will be a complimentary BBQ Bruch on offer from 11am at the sales venue”, Jeff leaver announced.

After a hectic days racing at Callaghan Park, the Ladbrokes Calcutta Dinner will be convened at the sales venue commencing at 6pm and it always proves a popular function.

As the well-worn adds go – “wait there is more and that’s not all”.

On the big Saturday race day April 7, there will be a free BBQ Breakfast combined with the all-important inspection of yearlings at the Showgrounds from 8am.

‘’Free’’, seems to be the catch word associated for not only the early birds but the after-dark folk looking to fulfil their hunger pains.

After the huge race day on Saturday, April 7, the long running “free” welcome Barbeque Dinner is once again scheduled for the Robert Schwarten Pavilion at the sales venue from 6pm.

That will lead into a select parade of yearlings by vendors at the sale with commentary from the Magic Millions group of auctioneers conducting the CYS the following day.

Then it is case of Home James to catch some shut eye before the 2018 CYS commences at 11am sharp, Sunday, April 8.
