Wicked Style Fillies Chase QTIS Bonus Race Double

That winning formula of the Capricornia Yearling Sales (CYS) and Oaklands Stud, Darling Downs will chase a QTIS bonus race double with another Wicked Style filly at Rockhampton’s Callaghan Park races today.

Their strong alliance was instrumental in the win of the Jamie McConachy trained Wicked Style filly Dantien scoring an eye-catching win when earning $20,550 prize money at Mackay races on Tuesday.

Incidentally Dantein a 2016 CYS acquisition is part-owned by Yeppon Turf Club president Gary Hall who will preside over that club’s next race meeting at Keppel Park on Saturday, August 19.

Another of the combination’s Wicked Style filly in Stylish Criminal (Race 2 – TAB 1) will chase a similar purse in this afternoon’s QTIS 3YO BM 60 Handicap (1200m).

Stylish Criminal, a daughter of the good producing Special Dane mare No More Crime has already won around $100K in purses.

Trained by John Pointon, a grand supporter of both Oaklands and the CYS, Stylish Criminal caught the eye when finishing fast albeit 6.4l away fourth to glamour gal Paradis imperial in the $112K RSL 2YO (1200m) at Townsville on July 15.

Pointon trekked back to Townsville with Stylish Criminal last Saturday and while looking uncomfortable in running the Wicked Style filly finished resolutely for 2.9 lengths fifth behind the smart Bold Endeavour.

Granted while on face value it may seem a tough assignment for Stylish Criminal to back up so quickly, it should be remembered that two of her rivals in Craiglea Nikita (5th) and Craiglea Max (7th) also contested the same race.

Pointon has engaged top jock Adrian Coome for the Stylish Criminal ride today while her jockey from last Saturday in Nathan Day will ride rival Dual Personality (TAB 4) which incidentally is a Wicked Style gelding.

Oaklands Stud is already planning a 17-horse yearling draft for the 2018 CYS at the Robert Schwarten Pavilion on April 8 next year.

Nathan Day who incurred a nine days careless riding suspension at Mackay races on Tuesday has another good book of rides at Callaghan Park this afternoon.

He has strong winning hopes aboard Avonaco (Race 1 – TAB 1); Mono Lad (R 3 – TAB 1) and Capella Girl (R 4 – TAB 4).

The Rockhampton Jockey Club has announced that the 2016-17 Garrards Horses and Hounds Awards Night will be held at Callaghan Park on Saturday, September 30.

Tickets at $40 a person covering a two-course meal and a complimentary drink are available now from the RJC offices.

Racing returns to Callaghan Park next Thursday, August 10.
