Would-be buyers at Sunday’s Capricornia Yearling Sales (CYS) at the Robert Schwarten Pavilion at the Rockhampton Showgrounds shouldn’t let Lot 94 sneak under their guard.
Hang on a minute “Mr Scribe”; have you been on the drink as the official catalogue only has 93 thoroughbred yearlings listed?
Suppose you are going to say Lot 94 was a typo – a journalist’s most plausible excuse?
Indeed not, as Lot 94 is a supplementary entry in Sunday’s catalogue and one certain to command attention.
Offered by Bill and Dianne Ouston’s Springton Park, Mulara as agents, it defines an imposing bay colt sired by the GR 2 winning entire Carrara from the multiple winning Speeding Fine mare Fine Shakira.
Prepared at Springton for the CYS, Di Ouston reports that the colt is a “strong, compact early running type with a very sensible attitude”.
“His dam Fine Shakira was a successful racehorse winning in open 3YO company. The pedigree is abundant with GR and Listed (CORRECT) race winners”, she said.
The colt’s sire Carrara was an outstanding racehorse and this colt is from his second crop.
Very few of the progeny of Carrara have raced but his son Allround Glory has been placed behind the outstanding juvenile Paradis Imperial and the very smart The Bank Manager.
Often at yearling sales, potential buyers can become frustrated when they have been outbid for youngsters throughout the auction.
Here’s the good news from Di Ouston.
“This colt’s owners are genuine sellers”, she said.
Jot it down Lot 94, the Carrara –Fine Shakira colt and who knows, you may take it home.
While it will be a case of “home James to feed the horses” for trainers over the next few days, chances are they will be later hightailing it out to the Rocky Showgrounds for sneak preview of the yearlings.
The biggest draft from Neville Stewart’s Oakland’s Stud arrives today THURSDAY while other leading vendors Aquis Farm and Oakwood Farm will follow suit today Thursday and tomorrow. FRIDAY.
CYS organisers are keen to remind all and sundry that the Ladbrokes Calcutta Dinner will be going ahead on Friday night at the sales venue from 6pm.
Tickets must be purchased from the Rockhampton Jockey Club offices at Callaghan Park racecourse.
International winning jockey Robbie Fraad will be the special guest for the evening and repeating once again Sunday’s CYS is a definite goer.
“There has been so much misleading gossip filtering thought about the CYS but let me assure everyone it will proceed on Sunday as scheduled from 11am”, convenor Jeff Leaver said last night. WEDNESDAY
